Overview
For driving enthusiasts, nothing satisfies like a sports car—but the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 Coupe and GLC63 Coupe crossovers come close, and they require few compromises for passengers or space. Underneath their suavely styled sheetmetal are adaptive suspension, all-wheel drive, and powerful twin-turbo engines that provide wicked acceleration and unnaturally sporty handling for an SUV. But there are choices; numerous manufacturers, ranging from Porsche to Jaguar, offer high-performance crossovers that compete with these two swift Mercedes-AMG models.
What's New for 2018?
Not much has changed for 2018. Mercedes-AMG's new Track Pace app is now available, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; both come in the new Smartphone Integration package. A performance exhaust system also joins the options list. And for 2018, the GLC43 Coupe is joined by the even wilder V-8–powered GLC63 Coupe.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Beneath the hood of the GLC43 Coupe is a fire-breathing twin-turbocharged 362-hp 3.0-liter V-6 engine that yields sports-car performance on demand and is a willing partner for enthusiast drivers. The GLC63 Coupe's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 is even more boisterous, and its 469 ponies might be enough to induce heart palpitations. Both engines pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. These performance coupes come by their AMG badging honestly, with powerful acceleration, dynamic handling, and robust brakes. Despite their sporting personalities, neither version has an overly harsh ride, although it might be a bit stiff for some buyers. And they handle far better than their tall bodies would have you think.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The GLC Coupe models boast a sporty yet luxe interior with such standard features as heated power front seats with memory, dual-zone climate control, and upscale aluminum trim. Passenger accommodations front and rear are about average for the segment. Although the Coupes do an adequate job of moving cargo, their fastback roofline limits their carrying capacity somewhat, and some competitors can hold more stuff. If you're looking to maximize cargo capacity, go with one of the standard squareback models.
Infotainment and Connectivity
The standard Mercedes COMAND infotainment system is easy to use, and it's acceptably responsive. The system now offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but they're part of the extra-cost Smartphone Integration package. Standard equipment includes a 7.0-inch display, Bluetooth connectivity, two USB ports, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a premium six-speaker audio system.
