Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Land Cruiser's 5.7-liter aluminum V-8 serves up a total of 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. As you might expect, four-wheel drive is standard, and power is distributed courtesy of an eight-speed automatic transmission. On the road, the Land Cruiser feels every bit its size; this is not an SUV that drives like a high-riding minivan. The bad news is that the Land Cruiser feels like an old-school SUV, meaning there’s loads of body roll in corners, vague steering, and a squishy brake pedal. Fuel economy is also abysmal, even for a large sport-utility. What matters more to Land Cruiser fans is how it performs off-road. Underbody skid plates, a two-speed transfer case, and disconnecting anti-roll bars are just some of the hardware that makes the Land Cruiser one of the best all-terrain vehicles at any price.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The cabin of the Land Cruiser certainly won’t fool you into thinking you’re piloting a BMW or Mercedes, but the materials are of respectably high quality, and there’s plenty of space for anyone seated in the first or second row. Surprisingly, despite its sheer scale, the Land Cruiser's tight third-row seats are best left for kids. Standard features include leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, quad-zone climate control, and a handy sliding second row. Cargo space with all eight seats occupied measures 16.1 cubic feet. With the third row tucked away, cargo volume rings in at about 43 cubic feet.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Land Cruiser is equipped with a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen that comes standard with Bluetooth, navigation, wireless charging, Siri Eyes Free, and a 14-speaker audio system with satellite radio. A rear-seat entertainment system is also standard, as is a 360-parking camera and Toyota’s Entune App Suite.
