2020 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo
- All powertrains have a polished punch, top-notch interior quality, ample cubby storage.
- Un-Porsche-like steering feel, compromised outward visibility, some ergonomic foibles.
- The Panamera Sport Turismo is one of the best-driving wagons, it's just not one of the best-driving Porsches.

Overview
Once known solely for selling sports cars, Porsche has since expanded its craft to athletic SUVs, an electric sedan, and even speedy station wagons. The latter is realized by the 2020 Panamera Sport Turismo, which is a longroof version of the regular Panamera. While they both have a useful hatchback and high-powered engine options, the Sport Turismo has more cargo space and more striking looks. Its interior is customizable and elegant, with a satisfying driving position and a back seat that's definitely bigger than a 911's. Despite Porsche's uncanny ability to infuse the majority of its lineup with high-fidelity steering, its wagonoid entry is missing that magic. Still, the 2020 Panamera Sport Turismo is one of the best-driving wagons out there—and one of the most expensive.

What's New for 2020?
For 2020, Porsche makes the smallest of changes to the Panamera Sport Turismo lineup. These include new metallic paint colors—Gentian Blue and Papaya. Otherwise, its mechanical components and laundry list of standard and optional features don't receive any significant updates.

Get your trade-in valuePricing and Which One to Buy
The 2020 Panamera Sport Turismo comes in a wide range of flavors and prices. On one end, the base 4 model makes 330 horsepower and costs a bit less than $100,000, while the Turbo S E-Hybrid has almost double the power for nearly double the price. We think the Sport Turismo 4S strikes the best balance between performance and value, with its 440-hp twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 and standard all-wheel drive. While there are seemingly endless combinations of options, we'd keep our picks simple. The Premium package has blind-spot monitoring, a Bose audio system, passive entry, and more power adjustments for the front seats as well as memory settings. In addition to rear-axle steering for added maneuverability and a better-sounding exhaust system, the Sport package includes the Sport Chrono package. The latter brings a dash-mounted stopwatch, a drive-mode selector on the steering wheel, a performance display, and a Sport Plus setting with launch control that optimizes the wagon's performance characteristics.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Panamera Sport Turismo offers a standard 330-hp turbocharged V-6, a twin-turbo V-6 that makes up to 457 horsepower, or a 462-hp gasoline-electric E-Hybrid. All of these setups offer the oomph needed for daily driving—and in most cases, a lot more. The ultra-high-performance Turbo and the extra-expensive Turbo S E-Hybrid variants develop 550 and 667 ponies, respectively. A clairvoyant eight-speed automatic transmission is the icing on top of the Porsche wagon's powertrain cake. Refinement is never wanting in the Sport Turismo, and each of the Porsche's powertrains packs a polished punch. The engines' sounds are expensive and sweet, and the transition between power sources in the hybrid model is almost imperceptible. A standard air suspension and sticky performance tires allow the Panamera Sport Turismo to float over ragged roads and corner as if it's on rails. Unfortunately, Panameras feature some of the least communicative steering we've experienced in a car wearing the Porsche badge. The standard braking setup provides excellent feel and modulation that make smooth stops easy. We can't say the same about the brake pedal of the hybrid model, which suffers from jarring and uneven response as the braking system transitions from regenerative to mechanical braking.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
Fuel efficiency is not the Panamera Sport Turismo's strong suit. That said, the Porsche wagon drinks fuel at a rate that's par for the class. Those looking for more efficiency can opt for the V-6 4 E-Hybrid. Although it actually did slightly worse than the base Panamera 4 on our 200-mile highway fuel-economy route—27 mpg versus 28—it does offer a limited all-electric driving range of 14 miles before needing to fire up its gasoline engine. The Turbo S E-Hybrid provides 14 miles of electrified driving range and, at 29 mpg, had the highest real-world fuel economy among Sport Turismos. Meanwhile, the regular Turbo Sport Turismo returned a comparatively low 23 mpg—matching its EPA-rated highway estimate.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
The interior of the 2020 Panamera Sport Turismo looks and feels every bit its nearly six-figure price. As with any Porsche, the Sport Turismo's options list is long, pricey, and includes items ranging from the lavish (massaging front and rear seats) to the ludicrous (leather-covered climate-control vents). Although taller riders may find rear-seat legroom to be on the snug side, the Panamera Sport Turismo offers plenty of rear headroom for passengers large and small. The Panamera Sport Turismo's cargo bay is noticeably smaller than its wagon rivals, but it held seven carry-on suitcases and another 13 with the rear seat folded. The Sport Turismo's lift-over height is on the taller side of the class, but it's much lower than the regular hatchback. Generous door pockets, a reasonably sized glovebox, and an awkwardly shaped center-console bin serve as the Porsche station wagon's main interior storage spaces.
Infotainment and Connectivity
While the Panamera Sport Turismo's 12.3-inch infotainment screen looks pretty, its attractive wrapper hides a messy interface with overcomplicated menus, ergonomic challenges, and functional limitations. Otherwise, its infotainment system has standard desirable features such as Apple CarPlay integration, built-in navigation, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Strangely, Android Auto capability and wireless phone charging are unavailable throughout the lineup.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
The 2020 Panamera Sport Turismo hasn't been crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). However, it is available with numerous driver-assistance technology. Key safety features include:
- Available forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
- Available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
- Available lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Porsche has a competitive limited and powertrain warranty. Its 24-hour roadside-assistance program spans the same amount of time, while complimentary scheduled maintenance is also included for a short period.
- Limited warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty covers 4 years or 50,000 miles
- Complimentary maintenance is covered for 1 year or 10,000 miles
