Volvo sent its smallest station wagon, the V40, to the U.S. starting in 2000.
The Y2K era had many small Euro station wagons, and the V40 was meant to do battle with wagons from Audi, BMW, and Saab.
The V40 was less boxy than larger Volvo wagons.
The sole engine was a 160-hp 1.9-liter four driving the front wheels.
All U.S. V40s came with an automatic transmission.
