The Explorer Timberline didn't die; it just took a gap year. The Explorer Tremor takes everything we enjoyed about the off-road-friendly Timberline and adds an optional 400-hp V-6.
You can get your Explorer Tremor with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6, but it'll cost you.
You need to pony up for the $11,850 Tremor Ultimate package—in addition to the Tremor's $50,160 base price—for access to the 400-hp V-6.
Otherwise, you're stuck with the base engine, which is a turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four making 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
We reckon the 400-hp Tremor will reach 60 mph in about 5.2 seconds, just a smidge behind the last Explorer ST we tested. (It's the same engine.)
Opting for the high-horsepower V-6 also nets you a 14-speaker B&O sound system, a fixed glass sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, and more.
