You've probably heard by now that the Honda Prelude is back. It's now a hybrid coupe that's closely related to the Civic, and we've just gotten the chance to drive it here in the States.
The Prelude has made its return for the first time in 25 years, as this model was last sold in the U.S. in 2001.
This is the sixth-generation model, and it's different from its predecessors in that it offers only a hybrid powertrain.
The two-motor hybrid system comes from the Civic Hybrid and uses a 2.0-liter inline-four gasoline engine.
Output is 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque, and sadly there's no manual transmission.
Honda has introduced a new S+ fake-shifting mode that works with steering-mounted paddle shifters.
The Prelude is offered in a single fully loaded trim level, although there is an option for a two-tone color combo with a black roof.
Although 200 horsepower doesn't sound like much, it matches the output of the Civic Si's turbocharged 1.5-liter engine.
This color is called Boost Blue Pearl and is an extra-cost option.
All-season tires are standard, but these grippier Continental ExtremeContact summer tires are available as a dealer-installed accessory for $1200.
The braking hardware is taken from the Civic Type R hot hatchback.
