Arriving just after the Mazda Miata made its debut, the Mercury Capri was a sporty little convertible that hailed from Down Under.
The Capri, unlike the Miata, was based on humble, front-wheel-drive mechanicals.
Unfortunately, the vaguely wedge-shaped bodywork wasn't the most handsome.
The Capri had a roomier interior than the Miata, however, and even had a small back seat.
The sportier XR2 version came exclusively with a stick shift.
