Toyota's spicy GR Corolla sees several updates for the 2025 model year, the most significant of which is a newly optional eight-speed automatic transmission.
All GR Corollas continue to pack a 300-hp turbocharged inline-three, though torque has been boosted by 22 pound feet over last year, to 295 lb-ft.
A six-speed manual transmission also remains standard, with the newly available eight-speed automatic costing an extra $2000 on all trim levels.
Minor suspension tweaks further enhance the GR Corolla's already awesome fun factor, though driver engagement does suffer with only two pedals.
The auto-equipped GR Corolla will hit 60 mph in a launch control-enabled 5.0 seconds flat. However, its acceleration was inconsistent at the test track, and it was not as quick as the manual versions we've tested.
The automatic also earns the GR Corolla a lower 27-mpg EPA combined rating versus the manual's 28 mpg.
At 3345 pounds, our automatic test car weighed 72 pounds more than the heaviest manual version we've tested.
Pricing for the GR Corolla automatic starts at $42,355 for the base Core trim. Our top-range Premium Plus model topped $50,000 with a few options.
