Honda has officially revived the Prelude, with the sporty compact now taking on a hybrid powertrain. We got to briefly experience the Prelude and its new S+ Shift mode ahead of its arrival next year.
After 25 years away, the Honda Prelude is back for 2026, and we were given the opportunity to briefly drive it.
The revived Prelude may have grown, but the sports coupe's design is as handsome as ever.
The Prelude now shares its powertrain with the Civic Hybrid.
Honda hasn't made any alterations to the powertrain for the Prelude specifically, so it makes the same 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque as in the Civic.
Unsurprisingly, the Prelude's interior mirrors the interior of the Civic, but with the addition of a prominent S+ button near the gear selector.
The S+ programming serves as an additional sporty driving mode on top of the Comfort, GT, Sport, and Individual modes.
The S+ Shift mode also lets you simulate shifts using the paddles on the steering wheel—despite the Prelude not having a traditional transmission.
Honda hasn't released the official pricing figures for the Prelude yet, but we expect it to start around $42,000.
That price would put the Prelude surprisingly close to the Civic Type R, which starts at $47,090 and comes with 315 horsepower.
