The Subaru Forester Wilderness returns for the SUV's sixth generation with brawnier styling, gaining even more off-road upgrades while maintaining a comfortable ride for daily commuting.
The Wilderness is powered by a 2.5-liter flat-four, producing 180 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, but you can't get the hybrid powertrain.
The engine is mated to a continuously variable transmission, which has a shorter final-drive ratio, adjusted from 3.70 to 4.11, to help the vehicle scamper over off-road obstacles.
The Forester Wilderness wears chunky bumpers, each sporting a pair of tow hooks with orange covers. The same orange accents appear on the standard roof rails.
The Forester Wilderness rides on a set of Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires, sized at 235/60R-17.
With 9.3 inches of ground clearance, the Wilderness sits 0.6 inch higher than a standard Forester.
The 2026 Forester Wilderness can tow up to 3500 pounds, 500 pounds more than the last generation and 800 pounds more than its closest off-road-focused competitor.
