After a couple of weak attempts in the 2010s, Subaru is reviving the Crosstrek Hybrid for the 2026 model year with a more competent powertrain that improves fuel economy while keeping Subaru's well-known all-terrain prowess.
The Crosstrek Hybrid is offered in the Sport and Limited trims, with the equipment largely mirroring the gas-only Sport and Limited variants.
The cabin is mostly the same as the standard Crosstrek, but the hybrid model is the only way to spec a digital gauge cluster.
The hybrid's small battery is stored under the rear cargo hold, meaning the Crosstrek Hybrid does not come with a spare tire.
The battery also reduces cargo space, which shrinks from 20 to 19 cubic feet with the rear seats up and from 55 to 51 cubic feet with the seats stowed.
Along with the digital gauge cluster, the Crosstrek Hybrid features an 11.6-inch touchscreen.
The Crosstrek Hybrid's powertrain returns an EPA-estimated 36 mpg, up from 29 mpg in the gas-only non-Wilderness Crosstrek.
