What year is it? It feels like the early 2000s, considering new versions of the Acura Integra and Honda Prelude will soon be on sale again. The latter returns after a 25-year hiatus, adopting a hybrid-only powertrain and parts from the racy Civic Type R.
The reborn Prelude has a sleek design that looks more like a Toyota Prius than a Honda product.
While the Prelude has a steeply raked rear roofline that makes it look like a coupe, it's actually a hatchback.
The Prelude shares its powertrain with the Civic Hybrid, which pairs two electric motors with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
The Prelude's peak output is 200 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque, which is fed to the front axle via a direct-drive gearbox.
Headlights with wing-like elements are among the Prelude's distinct design features.
Along with 19-inch wheels, the Prelude has Brembo brakes from the track-ready Civic Type R.
These flush door handles help promote the Prelude's aerodynamic bodywork, which should aid its fuel economy too.
If the hybrid Civic provides any clues, the Prelude could flirt with a combined rating around 50 mpg.
Despite its sporty styling and sharing parts with the CTR, Honda says the Prelude is more of a GT car.
Honda plans to put the Prelude on sale in fall 2025, and pricing will come out before then, likely around the mid-$30K range.
