The E53 inherits the latest E-class's upscale and accommodating cabin.
Our test car had the MBUX Superscreen package, which includes a larger center screen, a passenger-side screen, and a selfie camera on the dash, a $1500 option we'd skip.
Electric mode will get you farther in the E53 than most other PHEVs. We achieved 44 miles in our 75-mph highway test, better than the E53's 42-mile EPA range rating.
The control knob on the lower left allows quick access to various vehicle settings.
Front buckets with additional bolstering are always part of the AMG upgrades. These thrones also have ventilation and massaging functionality and a heated armrest, part of the $2950 Multicontour Seating package.
The underlying goodness of the E-class remains in the E53, including an adult-friendly rear seat.
The four-zone climate control is part of the $4150 Pinnacle trim, which also includes a head-up display and adaptive headlights.
