The 2025 Mercedes-AMG E53 is the hottest E-class currently available, since the E63 has yet to return. This latest E53 gets a higher-output version of the turbocharged inline-six from the E450 and previous E53 and adds an electric motor and sizable battery pack to make a peak of 604 horsepower, one more than the previous E63's twin-turbo V-8.
We're suckers for brown and, even better, the E53's Sonoran Brown Metallic is a no-cost color choice.
The new E-class, upon which the E53 is based, continues a lineage of excellent mid-size Mercedes sedans. Its stately proportions, luxurious interior environs, and satisfying dynamics landed the E450 on our 2025 10Best Cars list.
While you might think of the E53 as the "junior" AMG, its 3.3-second blast to 60 mph and 11.6-second quarter-mile are just about a half second behind than the previous E63's best accelerative efforts.
The 3.0-liter inline-six gets a larger twin-scroll turbocharger to boost output of the engine to 443 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, gains of 14 horses and 29 pound-feet over the previous E53. And then the electric motor adds another 161 horsepower and 354 pound-feet.
These 21-inch forged-aluminum wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires are part of the $3150 AMG Dynamic Plus package, which also includes an electronic limited-slip rear differential, active engine mounts, a 174-mph top-speed limiter, and larger brakes with carbon-ceramic front rotors.
We fail to see the point of the E53's included DC fast-charging capability. It took 23 minutes to charge from empty to a 90 percent state of charge, which nets only about 40 miles of electric range.
Quad tailpipes, a trunklid spoiler, and lower diffuser complete the AMG aesthetic.
