The 2026 Nissan Leaf enters its third generation and undergoes a seismic shift, transforming from a dorky-looking hatchback to a slickly styled subcompact SUV.
The Leaf has smooth bodywork that, combined with flush door handles and a flat underbody, allows the electric SUV to achieve a drag coefficient of just 0.26.
While Nissan refers to the 2026 Leaf as an SUV, it's actually a tad shorter than before, and Nissan also removed 3.0 inches from the Leaf's overall length.
The Leaf doesn't just look new—it also offers far more range than before, with all but the base S model featuring a new 75-kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack.
Nissan claims the Leaf will max out at 303 miles of range in the S+ trim, with the fancier SV+ cutting that figure to 288 miles and the top-of-the-line Platinum+ returning 259 miles.
Those three trims feature a single electric motor connected to the front wheels. It delivers 214 horsepower and 261 pound-feet of torque.
Nissan says it will later add a base S model with a 52-kWh battery pack and a 174-hp front-mounted electric motor.
The 2026 Leaf goes on sale this fall, and pricing should start in the mid-$30,000s range.
