The Toyota Tacoma TRD PreRunner brings back the idea of an off-road-oriented pickup with rear-wheel drive, taking the TRD Off-Road package and placing it into a smaller body at a steep discount.
If you want a Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road but wish it were $3680 less expensive, the TRD PreRunner is the one for you.
Whereas the TRD Off-Road offers a crew cab and a shorter bed, the PreRunner sticks to an extended cab (XtraCab, as Toyota calls it) and a longer six-foot bed.
The PreRunner also makes use of a leaf-spring rear suspension, which sacrifices a bit of comfort and capability over the TRD Off-Road's coil-spring setup.
The PreRunner offers a single nonhybrid powertrain.
Its turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four produces 278 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque.
