The SL63 S E Performance has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 under the hood packing 603 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque.
The electric drive unit consists of a motor with 201 horses and 236 pound-feet, a two-speed transmission, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and a 4.8-kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack.
We expect the E Performance to only go a handful of miles or so on battery power alone.
The engine and motor combine to produce a staggering 805 horses and 1047 pound-feet, routed to all four wheels.
Mercedes claims the electric-drive assembly adds nearly 500 pounds. By our math, the convertible should weigh around 4850 pounds.
Up front, massive 16.5-inch carbon-ceramic rotors are pinched by six-piston calipers. In the rear are 15.0-inch rotors and wimpy-looking single-piston calipers.
We expect the race to 60 mph to be over in under 2.5 seconds.
The E Performance has a 3.7-kW onboard charger that will recharge the battery in roughly two hours on a 220-volt connection.
The SL63 S E Performance starts at $208,150.
