The Polestar 4 sits lower than its big brother, the Polestar 3, but manages to eke out extra headroom by removing the rear windshield, extending the panoramic sunroof, and relying exclusively on a digital rearview mirror. This approach may be gimmicky, but the Polestar 4 still provides a smooth ride and an upscale cabin.
The Polestar 4 comes with two powertrains, with a single-motor base model sending 268 horsepower to the rear wheels.
We sampled the dual-motor all-wheel-drive version, which pumps out 536 horsepower and 506 pound-feet of torque.
The 4 feels rapid and is the quickest Polestar yet with a claimed 62-mph time of 3.8 seconds.
The steering is direct and the ride comfortable, but the Polestar 4 doesn't feel particularly engaging.
The optional Brembo brakes, part of the Performance package, feel strong but lack feel.
The 4's 94.0-kWh battery should provide up to 300 miles of range in the single-motor variant and recharges at up to 200 kilowatts at a DC fast-charger.
We didn't find the Polestar 4's digital rearview mirror challenging, but not everyone will adapt to it quickly.
The cabin is centered around a 15.4-inch touchscreen that is crisp and features bold colors and fonts.
The Pilot Assist system can steer the car within its lane, change lanes, and adjust its speed to the cars ahead.
