Ford's electric crossover gets dirty as the 2024 Mustang Mach-E Rally, a performance model perfect for buyers who want to rip up some dirt roads.
Since its launch as a 2021 model, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has been a solid EV option for drivers who enjoy driving.
For 2024, a new range-topping Rally model joins the lineup, and its slightly lifted suspension helps improve its abilities off-road.
Sitting an inch higher than the mechanically similar GT model, the Rally can clear more obstacles, but it's still no rock-crawling trail machine in the vein of a Rivian R1S.
Instead, the Rally is more at home on dirt roads and rally courses, such as the ones we sampled at the Dirtfish Rally School in Washington.
A unique RallyCross driving mode lets the driver have more fun by limiting the stability and traction control systems' intervention.
Rally-inspired 19-inch wheels are standard, and the Mach-E Rally wears a unique front splitter and a big rear wing.
On the road, the Mach-E Rally's suspension tweaks and taller-sidewall tires give it a slightly more comfortable ride than the GT.
Unfortunately, the Rally's higher ride height and more aggressive tire treads hurt its EPA-estimated driving range, which is 15 miles shorter than the GT's at 265 miles per charge.
Even so, we're impressed by how small tweaks to the Mustang Mach-E can result in a different type of performance vehicle that's hilariously fun on a gravel road.
