Get an inside look at the Celestiq's bespoke build process, from the artsy showroom to the factory where each car is assembled.
The Cadillac Celestiq is the brand's new hand-built $340K-plus electric flagship. We recently were invited to get an inside look at how one of these bespoke models is built, visiting Cadillac House at Vanderbilt and even touring the nearby Artisan Center.
The Cadillac House at Vanderbilt is where Celestiq customers can come to personalize their car. The glass-sided building is located on GM's Global Technical Center campus in Warren, Michigan.
This shiny sculptural wall was originally designed by Detroit-based artist Harry Bertoia in the 1950s. It's the first thing customers see when they enter the airy mid-century building.
During our visit, Cadillac had a Celestiq shimmering in Infrared paint sitting on a turntable in the middle of the showroom. It gave us a chance to sit in, touch, and admire the elegant EV.
Within the Celestiq's sedan shape is a discreet hatchback, and the cabin has a four-passenger configuration. A pair of electric motors provide all-wheel drive and 600 horsepower.
Celestiq customers start the build process virtually and can meet in person at Cadillac House to work hand in hand with an expert concierge. And their personal design choices are endless.
Customers also have access to a Cadillac designer and other exclusive services throughout the build process. Most sessions at Cadillac House are said to take between two and three hours.
On one side of the building there's a wall with various sections that open to reveal an array of samples, contributing to the theatrical experience, which Cadillac says should feel like a social hour.
While Cadillac has mastered over 200 exterior colors, customers can color match anything they want to create their own paint job. Engraving and upholstery choices are similarly infinite.
Every Celestiq is built by hand at the Artisan Center that's also on the Tech Center campus. There are seven stations on the line, and every car spends about four hours at each.
We can't say the Celestiq has once again cemented Cadillac as the Standard of the World, but we can say it's a step in the right direction.
