The 2024 Acura TLX Type S is mechanically the same as it was when this generation first came out in 2021, but this refreshed version debuts a new Urban Gray Pearl paint color, a cleaned-up grille, and copper-colored NSX-inspired Y-spoke wheels, and the interior is also home to a host of tech and infotainment upgrades.
As it has since its 2021 introduction, the TLX Type S gives off a rear-wheel-drive vibe because of its long hood and cab-aft proportions.
The Type S is once again powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 that's augmented by a twin-scroll turbocharger to produce 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque.
The Type S cleverly disguises its nose-heavy weight distribution with an intelligent all-wheel-drive system that can shift 70 percent of the drive torque rearward and can send as much as 100 percent of that to the loaded outside tire.
Pirelli P Zero PZ4 summer tires and lightweight Y-spoke wheels are available, but they cost significantly more this year because they're a dealer-installed option instead of something that is bolted on at the factory.
A new front distance sensor is now entirely contained within the Acura logo instead of spilling out into the surrounding grille, as it did last year, and this new millimeter-wave radar now has a 120-degree field of view, up from 50 degrees.
Except for one glaring detail, the TLX's interior is attractive and logical, and the driver's seat proved to be comfortable and supportive after a 2000-mile trip despite not feeling soft and squishy when we first sat down.
Last year's physical gauges have been replaced by a configurable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that can display more information, but none of the available choices is as legible as the outgoing physical dials.
The central infotainment screen's size has also been increased to 12.3 inches, and the processor that runs it is significantly quicker and lag-free. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now wireless too. Pity it's still controlled by a wonky touchpad.
There's not much space in the TLX's back seat, which has 2.5 fewer inches of legroom than the "smaller" Integra because of the aforementioned long hood and cab-aft proportions.
