The Ram ProMaster EV is the latest electric van to join the growing segment, and while it has a capacious cargo hold, solid range and charging stats, and features specifically designed to ease deliveries, it's held back by a lofty price and weak payload.
The ProMaster EV is being offered in two configurations, Delivery and Cargo. We drove the former.
Ram says a half-loaded ProMaster EV Delivery can travel 162 miles on a charge in urban driving.
A 97.0-kWh battery pack is packaged low in the chassis, helping the EV accommodate up to 524 cubic feet of cargo .
A front-mounted electric motor sends 268 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels.
Recharging on a DC fast-charger peaks at 150 kilowatts and takes 55 minutes to go from 20 to 80 percent.
At 11 kilowatts on a Level 2 charger, the ProMaster EV needs eight hours to reach a full charge.
Inside, the dashboard features a 10.1-inch touchscreen that can run wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The ProMaster EV's Delivery model has a 2030-pound payload rating, less than half the total for the gas-powered ProMaster.
The ProMaster EV will be offered in a delivery-specific variant, as well as two cargo configurations measuring 12 feet and 13.5 feet long.
2024 Ram ProMaster EV
The ProMaster EV will use Ram Telematics to track data that will help fleet operators create more efficient routes and drive more safely.
The ProMaster EV Delivery model costs $79,990 to start, over $20K more than a Ford E-Transit.
