2024 BMW 530i xDrive exterior and interior photos.
The new BMW 5-series carries a polarizing face and, in base 530i guise, a 255-hp turbo four. If you can deal with some, let's say, aspirational pricing, there's a whole lot to like in the latest iteration of this executive luxury sedan.
The BMW 530i xDrive wields a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four making 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
The 530i's four-pot is the same displacement as the engine it replaces, but this new unit carries a number of improvements.
Moving to the Miller cycle, which lets the intake valve hang open a bit during compression, boosts efficiency in a big way. We recorded a thrifty 35 mpg at 75 mph.
While 255 horsepower isn't exactly mind-bending, the 530i scoots to 60 mph in a solid 5.5 seconds, continuing on through the quarter-mile in 14.2 seconds at 96 mph.
The new 5er's design generated vastly different opinions among the editorial staff.
Fun fact: The new 5-series is longer and wider than the 2008 E65 7-series.
Thanks to an optional M Sport suspension and some sufficiently grippy tires, we recorded 0.92 g of stick on our 300-foot skidpad.
Even with its diminutive turbo four, the 530i commands a stratospheric price, with our test car making its way into the $70,000 range.
