The Lotus Emira is almost ready to get married. It's got something old (a variant of the Evora's chassis), something new (just look at it!), and something borrowed (Chinese funding). All it needs is something blue. Too bad the one they sent us was silver.
Despite its new Chinese backing, there's a lot that feels familiar in the Lotus Emira.
The chassis is a modified version of what was found in its forebear, the Evora.
Also like its predecessor, the Emira gets its motive force from a Toyota-sourced V-6. Here, it makes 400 horsepower.
Find the right road, and you'll have a hard time wanting to be anywhere else.
One thing the Emira doesn't have in common with the Evora? The cabin no longer feels cut-rate.
"Where's all the exposed metal?" Lotus Elise owners are probably wondering. At least the shift linkage is visible.
Behind the wheel, the Emira feels like a relative of the Evora and Elise, albeit one that's had some book learnin'.
The shifter will take some getting used to.
So will the brakes, which are grabby enough to cause your passenger's head to experience redshift.
