The Tonale uses the same mechanical package as the Dodge Hornet R/T.
A plug-in-hybrid powertrain is standard and marries a turbocharged 1.3-liter engine, a rear electric motor, and a six-speed automatic.
All-wheel drive is standard, but the Tonale runs as a rear-drive machine when running exclusively on battery power.
Total powertrain output is 285 horsepower and 347 pound-feet of torque.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale is also good for 33 miles of EV range, according to the EPA.
In our testing, the Alfa Romeo Tonale scrambled to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, same as the Hornet R/T.
