The most popular Lamborghini, the Urus, is not the company's first SUV. Back in the 1980s, Lambo rolled out the comically buff LM002, a four-door pickup truck meant for military use. Maybe if Lamborghini had marketed it as the ultimate consumer SUV—which it was—the company would have sold more than 300 of them.
The LM002 (left, duh) is an off-roader that can handle itself on the street. The Urus is the other way around.
On the street, the LM002 feels huge, and quicker than trucks of its time.
This 1989 LM002 wears the colors of Leyton House, a Japanese company that sponsored a Formula 1 team around that time.
The LM002's 345-width tires made it a champ on the dunes.
On the road, the Urus's 3.0-second 60-mph time means the LM002 can be quickly shrunken in the rearview mirror.

The five-speed manual transmission is surprisingly delicate in its action.
The LM002 is a four-seater—inside, anyway. Extra passengers can ride on seats in the bed. (But not in this one, given its cargo box back there.)
If those cyclonic air cleaners look like they were pilfered from construction equipment, well, they probably were.
