Mini has redesigned its Mini Cooper hatchback from tip to tail with a more modern take on the brand's retro interior design.
The Cooper hatchback has been a staple of the Mini brand for decades and it's entering its fifth generation with a fresh interior design to match its redesigned exterior.
Mini's designers wanted to upgrade the interior while also simplifying it, so they looked to vintage Mini models for inspiration.
The circular infotainment display serves also as the gauge cluster and a bank of physical controls underneath includes the brand's signature toggle switches.
Ambient interior lighting is more prominent in the new Cooper Electric and features special lighting modes that match with the car's various driving modes.
A fabric-wrapped dashboard–shown here in a handsome houndstooth pattern–cleverly hides more LED lighting elements that can be lit in a variety of colors and shine through the material.
Several neat features are found throughout the cabin, including this webbed strap on the steering wheel that at first looks like a third spoke.
Sport seats in the Cooper Electric shown at its reveal look more comfortable and supportive than the chairs in the outgoing model.
Metal speaker grilles and cleverly integrated door armrests amp up the upscale look.
The center console storage bin has a unique look and another bit of that webbed strap material to serve as the pull to open the door.
The new Cooper Electric calls the drive modes "Experiences" which, in our opinion, is a little cringe, but in its defense cycling through the modes does change more than just the car's driving demeanor.
The model that debuted at the 2023 IAA auto show in Munich was a high-end trim, which offers luxury options such as a power driver's seat with lumbar and memory.
