The Zero DSX/R brings electric power to the adventure-bike genre, with 166 pound-feet of torque and 180 miles of city range. But it's expensive, and straying anywhere near its 112-mph top speed will drastically reduce range.
Street tires are standard, but the knobby Pirellis are optional.
The DSR/X weighs about 550 pounds, so its reverse function comes in handy.

Zero decided on Level 2 charging for the DSR/X, and the standard setup can charge the bike to 95 percent in about two hours. An optional second charger halves that time.
The Gates belt drive is smooth and quiet, but hardcore off-roaders can opt for a metal chain drive.
The Zero's 100 horsepower puts it in line with comparable gas-powered adventure bikes from Honda and BMW, but its 166 pound-feet of torque is in another league.
At a steady 70 mph, rated range drops to 85 miles. We saw about 100 miles of range during a ride on fast back roads.
