Lotus tells us that the Emira will eventually transition to a lineup of all four-cylinder powertrains, and this Emira is the first model to ditch the V-6. Performance, weight, and price are very similar to those of the V-6 car. More iterations of the AMG-sourced turbocharged 2.0-liter engine are on the horizon.

The new Emira 2.0-liter uses an AMG turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 360 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful four-pot Lotus road car of all time.

Although it's positioned below the Emira V-6, which uses a Toyota supercharged V-6, the four-cylinder version will be barely slower.

According to Lotus, the four-cylinder and V-6 models are in a dead heat to 60 mph, with the V-6 posting a 4.2-second time and the inline-four clocking in at 4.3 seconds.

Lotus says the four-cylinder Emira, with a 171-mph top speed, will be slower than the V-6, which can go 180 mph.

Buyers of the inline-four First Edition will be able to choose between a firmer Sport chassis and a softer Tour setup. In an unusual move for the segment, the Emira doesn't offer any active dynamic systems, with all versions using passive dampers.
