The 2025 GLC63 marks a major change for the performance SUV, ditching the burly V-8 for a hybrid four-cylinder powertrain.
The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GLC63 embarks on a new path with a plug-in-hybrid powertrain but still promises to provide blistering performance to outdo the old V-8–powered model.
Instead of the 4.0-liter V-8, the GLC63 now uses the plug-in-hybrid setup that first debuted in the latest C63 sedan.
That means a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mated to an electric motor that is mounted on the rear axle.
Combined output is a potent 671 horsepower and 752 pound-feet of torque, with Mercedes predicting a sprint to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds.
While the gas engine routes power through a nine-speed wet-clutch gearbox, the electric motor has its own integrated two-speed transmission, as well as an electronically controlled limited slip differential.
The electric motor is mostly used to power the rear wheels, but it can send power to the front wheels when more traction is needed.
The e-motor runs off a 6.1-kWh lithium-ion battery and can power the GLC63 on its own, although Mercedes hasn't revealed an electric-only range yet.
The 2.0-liter engine also features an electric motor built into the turbocharger, which eliminates turbo lag by spooling up the turbo in advance.
The GLC63 rides on steel springs with adaptive dampers, and features active roll stabilization that runs off of a 48-volt electrical system.
The GLC63 wears a more assertive front bumper and grille, while a spoiler sprouts from the roof and a diffuser pokes out of the rear bumper.
The GLC63 arrives for the 2025 model year, and we expect prices to start in the mid-$80,000 range.
