2023 BMW Z4 M40i exterior and interior photos.
The current-generation BMW Z4 M40i was introduced for 2020, while the sDrive30i variant premiered as a 2019 model. Considering it's been a few years since we've driven BMW's roadster, we felt it was time to check in.
The BMW Z4 was co-developed with the Toyota Supra in a joint program between the two companies.
The 2023 BMW Z4 is offered in two variants, the six-cylinder M40i, seen here, and the four-cylinder sDrive30i. Both are BMW engines.
The Z4 M40i's turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six makes 382 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, figures that are unchanged since this car's launch.
That grunt is enough to send this two-seat roadster to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 12.0 seconds at 116 mph.
Whereas the Supra with this same engine now can be had with a six-speed manual transmission, the Z4 still comes only with an eight-speed automatic.
