See the latest coupe from Mercedes from every angle. The new model fills in for both the departing C- and E-class coupes, using a familiar formula.
Mercedes-Benz has created a new model line, the CLE-class. The new car takes over as the brand's premium coupe from the outgoing two-door variants of the C-class and E-class which end production after the 2023 model year.
The CLE-class is roughly an inch longer than the E-class coupe, so it isn't exactly a direct replacement for the 6.5-inch-shorter C-class coupe on size.
The base engine, a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four, is borrowed from the C300 and E350 sedans and cranks out 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
The CLE450 shares its engine with the E450 sedan, with 375 hp and 369 pound-feet flowing forth from the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six.
Each engine is also assisted by an integrated starter-generator, which uses the 48-volt electrical system and provides a boost of 23 hp and 148 pound-feet of torque.
The rich-looking cabin is lifted straight out of the C300 sedan, with circular air vents and a combination of lush leather and cool metal.
The 11.9-inch center touchscreen handles the latest version of the MBUX infotainment, and the 12.3-inch digital dash display is also standard.
The Mercedes-Benz CLE-class is only offered with all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic gearbox.
The built-in entertainment suite on the center touchscreen is supplemented by downloadable third-party apps such as TikTok and Angry Birds.
Heated seats and four-way lumbar support are standard on the CLE, as is the 17-speaker Burmester surround-sound system.
The CLE-class goes on sale in the U.S. early next year and will be joined by a convertible variant later.
