There's no denying the allure of a manual transmission, but the 2023 Hyundai Elantra N is still a barrelful of laughs with the optional eight-speed dual-clutch automatic. It's quicker and more fuel efficient than the stick, although it does add about 100 pounds to the car's curb weight. Nevertheless, everything else about the Elantra N is so entertaining that you can't go wrong with either transmission.

We know the Elantra N's teen-racer vibe isn't for everyone, especially with that blacked-out maw of a front fascia.
It bested the six-speed-manual Elantra N to 60 mph by 0.3 second, and highway fuel economy went up by 5 mpg.
But the transmission isn't what makes the Elantra N such a compelling compact sports sedan.
There's no confusing the Elantra N for one of the more pedestrian versions, not with that wing.
The Hyundai's sheer customizability lets drivers have exactly the kind of experience they want, when they want it.
With two to three levels of intensity for the engine, stability control, exhaust note, steering, suspension, limited-slip differential, and transmission, there are 1458 possible ways to set the car up.
The interior layout is replete with physical buttons, which is nice, although the whole shebang is a little monochromatic.
But hey, the seats have light-up Ns, so that's cool.
