Mercedes-Benz unveiled the Vision One-Eleven today, a wild-looking concept that previews the company's future electric sports cars.
The One-Eleven's design echos the C111 prototype seen here, which served as a testbed for turbodiesel and rotary engines in the 1960s.
The One-Eleven's most obvious connection to the C111 is the orange paint, as well as the black accents in the hood and the wedge-like shape.
The One-Eleven is also fitted with gullwing doors and snazzy wheels meant to look like the windings inside of electric motors.
The cabin features a full-width LED display that features a pixelated design like an old-school news ticker that shows important information about the vehicle.
The seats are wrapped in a flashy, shiny silver upholstery, while the rest of the cabin is swathed in orange leather and a white fabric made from recycled polyester.
The rectangular steering wheel draws influence from motorsports and features polished aluminum dials.
The One-Eleven is powered by an axial-flux motor that Mercedes says is "exceptionally powerful."
Mercedes explains that axial-flux motors are lighter and more space efficient than the radial-flux motors that are commonly used in EVs today.
Mercedes plans on implementing axial-flux motors in its next generation of electric vehicles.
