The Lucid Air is one of the more interesting vehicles from an EV startup making its name in an ever-growing crowd. While most of the Air's trims start well into the six-figure range, the Air Pure is actually the base model, starting at $89,050 for rear-wheel drive. It may pack a little less range thanks to its smaller battery, and it might not make gobs of horsepower, but it's still a mighty-fine EV.
The Lucid Air Pure is available with either rear- or all-wheel drive.
The AWD version seen here uses a pair of electric motors producing a combined 480 horsepower and 686 pound-feet of torque.
The EPA estimates that the AWD Air Pure will achieve 384 miles of range from its 92.0-kWh battery pack when fitted with the optional 20-inch wheels, but that goes up to 410 miles if you stick with the standard 19-inch rolling stock.
In our 75-mph highway range test, the 20-inch shod all-wheel-drive Air Pure made it 310 miles before needing to juice up, at an observed efficiency of 100 MPGe.
During our testing, the dual-motor Air Pure reached 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, half a second behind the Touring trim.
Stepping down to the Pure requires some sacrifices, such as ditching the glass roof, losing the power-operated frunk, and omitting the cooled front seats.
You'll also have to make do with only 12-way power front seats (instead of 14-way), and three-zone climate control, down from four.
Despite a low base price, our test car still made its way over the $100,000 mark, settling in at $111,550.
Options are not cheap on the Air. Dual-motor all-wheel drive adds $5500 to the base price, the 20-inch wheels cost $2000, premium audio goes for $4000, and the DreamDrive Pro active driving assist suite asks a dear $10,000.
