SEMA concepts—especially the crazier ones—rarely function in the real world. You might assume the Quadratec JTe is one of those paper tigers, but it's not. What started life as a Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid has become a two-door mini-Gladiator PHEV, with a fully functional stock powertrain and a host of off-road goodies to help the abridged pickup navigate tough terrain.
No, your eyes aren't playing tricks. This is, in essence, a two-door Jeep Gladiator.
The Quadratec JTe is a SEMA concept that's capable of tackling the dirt and navigating a Target parking lot just like any other Jeep.
While Jeep will likely introduce a plug-in-hybrid Gladiator later in 2023, it probably won't ever come from the factory with just two doors. Quadratec has no plans to sell the JTe to customers either.
Builder Greg Henderson combined Mopar replacement body panels and a special hardtop with a stock Gladiator's bed to form the basis for the body.
The powertrain, which is untouched, combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors to produce 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
Adding to the JTe's vibe are 37-inch Nitto Recon Grappler A/T tires and a 2.5-inch Lynx suspension lift kit.
No matter what we threw at the JTe at the Holly Oaks ORV Park in Michigan, the two-door handled it just fine.
Considering that this concept took a mere 90 days to put together, we walked away impressed at just how put together it felt.
The JTe is a one-off, so if you want something similar, you'll have to put in some serious legwork (and pony up some major dough).
