For 2024, Mercedes-Benz is adding yet another model variant to the GLE-class mid-size luxury SUV: the GLE450e plug-in hybrid.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450e is the first U.S.-bound GLE with a plug-in-hybrid powertrain.
Under the hood is a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four making 248 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
The ICE gets a little help from a 134-hp synchronous electric motor.
Overall, the GLE450e produces 381 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.
The GLE's battery pack offers 23.3 kilowatt-hours of usable capacity, which provided us with 53 miles of electric-only operation during our 75-mph highway fuel economy test.
We hit 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds in the GLE450e, which is more than a second quicker than the gas-only GLE350.
From the driver's seat, we find the GLE450e to provide a sufficiently cushy ride, even though our tester's AMG wheels sent more than a few road imperfections into the cabin.
The GLE450e's starting price is $76,650.
The 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450e will reach dealerships in late summer, and it will be built in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
