The Corsair is the entry point into Lincoln's all-SUV lineup. Based on the Ford Escape SUV's platform, the two-row Corsair is gussied up to the max with its own distinct and handsome styling, as well as a posh interior. Most features found on premium SUVs are either standard or available as an option, including everything from massaging seats and a Revel Audio system to hands-free driving capability.
The Corsair has been refreshed for the 2023 model year, its fourth in production. The visual changes or subtle—the front end is revised slightly, with a larger grille and a restyled front fascia. There are also new exterior and interior color combos.
The Corsair's on-road behavior favors comfort over thrills, with a soft ride and relaxed handling. Its forte is easy cruising rather than twisty-road excitement.
The Corsair can now be equipped with ActiveGlide 1.2, Lincoln's version of Ford's BlueCruise hands-free driving system. It can be used on more than 100,000 miles of divided highways, says Lincoln. We found the system worked seamlessly to the point we almost weren't nervous passing semis anymore without our hands on the wheel.
Corsairs are available in either front- or all-wheel drive. The gas engine works through an eight-speed automatic, while the Grand Touring's hybrid powertrain feeds a continuously variable transmission.
Corsairs are powered by either a transversely mounted 250-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder or a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle inline-four hybrid setup that delivers a combined 266 horses. Top-spec Grand Touring models come only with the hybrid powertrain. Last year's 295-hp turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder has been dropped.
Inside, the already handsome interior is largely carried over. This year, all Corsairs are fitted with a 12.3-inch digital cluster and a 13.2-inch central infotainment screen that were previously reserved for the top-spec trims.
The interior of the Reserve model is awash in soft leather. There's handsome wood on the instrument panel and splashes of chrome throughout. Hard plastic is largely kept low and out of sight. It's definitely posh.
The mid-cycle enhancement also sees changes to the center console. HVAC and audio controls are now incorporated into the larger touchscreen, which is intuitive to operate.
While the Reserve comes with a long list of standard features and items, it takes adding the expensive Equipment Group 202A to make the Corsair a full-fledged premium chariot. The $10,730 package nets you a 14-speaker Revel Audio system, heated-and-ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a phone-as-key app, active park assist, the ActiveGlide hands-free driving system—and much, much more.
