The 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 SUV debuts as the Korean luxury brand's third EV and the first to be built in America.
The Electrified GV70 joins the Genesis lineup as the EV alternative to the gas-powered GV70s. The new electric model shares its dual-motor powertrain with the very similar GV60 Performance. The all-wheel-drive setup supplies up to 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, which we experienced during our first drive of the 2023 Electrified GV70.
Only a few cosmetic details differentiate the electric GV70 from the gasoline versions. The EV SUV has a unique grille and a restyled lower front fascia. Its specific 20-inch wheels and missing tailpipes are also giveaways.
The battery pack in the Electrified GV70's floor gives it a lower center of gravity than the gas models, which helps the roughly 5000-pound SUV feel more stable under cornering.
With an updated version of the brand's semi-automated Highway Driving Assist II, we appreciated how the Electrified GV70 didn't stray in its lane–something we've experienced in our long-term GV70 3.5T Sport Prestige.
Compared with gas-powered GV70s, the EV model has more sound deadening and other measures to keep interior noise levels down. Apart from some wind noise at highway speeds, we found its cabin to be pleasantly calm.
The Electrified GV70 has an EPA driving range of 236 miles on a full charge—one mile more than the GV60 Performance.
The 2023 Electrified GV70 is currently on sale starting at $67,550. That's the base price for the Advanced model; the fancier Prestige trim we drove starts at $74,350.
Genesis claims the Electrified GV70 can charge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in as few as 18 minutes when connected to a DC fast-charger. Roughly 60 miles can be added in five minutes using the same high-speed connection, according to the automaker.
While looking mostly identical to the gas version inside, the Electrified GV70 does get exclusive aluminum trim and a Glacier White interior color. The quilted seats on the Prestige trim we sampled also feature EV-specific copper accents.
The Electrified GV70 allows the driver to adjust the level of regenerative braking. It'll go from free-wheeling to one-pedal driving with a couple pulls of the steering wheel's paddles.
The Electrified GV70's Boost mode increases peak output from 429 to 483 horsepower for 10 seconds. It delivers a fun punch that made us giggle, but the function is also useful for executing quick passes.
