With a new dual-motor, all-wheel-drive powertrain called e-4ORCE, the 2023 Nissan Ariya electric crossover gains some newfound zest.
Nissan's electric Ariya crossover can now be had with a dual-motor electric powertrain that the company is calling e-4ORCE. A goofy name, certainly, but the setup provides much zippier acceleration than the standard front-wheel-drive model.
Base-level Engage models offer a combined 335 horsepower, but all other versions get a boost to 389 ponies.
The additional power doesn't alter the Ariya's on-road demeanor though, and it remains a soft-riding crossover focused on comfort rather than athleticism.
Range is slightly less than in the front-wheel-drive models. Engage models come with the same 63.0-kWh battery pack as the front-drive Engage, but the range falls from 216 miles per charge to 205.
Going with the Engage+, Evolve+, or Platinum+ trims unlock the larger 87.0-kWh battery. The first two get an estimated driving range of 272 miles, while the Platinum+ comes in at 267 miles.
Cargo space is unchanged from the standard Ariya, although the addition of the rear-mounted electric motor eliminates the SUV's under-floor storage bin.
While we still think the Ariya's exterior design is a bit drab, the interior environs are rather inspired.
There's plenty of space for adults in both rows of seats, and Nissan has integrated clever design features such as wood-trim pieces with hidden backlit controls for climate and vehicle controls.
The dashboard features dual 12.3-inch displays, one serving as a gauge cluster and the other as an infotainment touchscreen.
We suspect that buyers who may be trading in a Murano and considering an EV will find the Ariya a natural fit.
