Not every car in a race will finish first. The Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition is meant to celebrate—as the name suggests—Aston Martin's return to F1 racing, but much like its on-grid performance, the F1 Edition comes up a little short. Sure, there's a little more power and a little extra sharpness, but it's so close to the standard Vantage that the two are basically still equals.
As its name suggests, the Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition heralds the automaker's return to the pinnacle of motorsport.
The Vantage F1 uses the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 as the standard Vantage, but the wick gets turned up from 503 horsepower to 528.
Under the body, there are some structural reinforcements that lend additional stiffness.
The Vantage F1's handling is tweaked as well by way of retuned dampers and an increased rear spring rate.
The F1 Edition's aesthetics are a little more hardcore, thanks to the addition of dive planes up front and that sharp little wing and rear diffuser out back.
Despite these additions, the Vantage F1 doesn't really perform any better.
In our testing, the Vantage F1 required 3.5 seconds to reach 60 mph, only a tick or two from the last Vantage we evaluated.
Both cars have the same 195-mph top speed as well.
