The RAV4's Woodland Edition trim adds some burlier looks at the expense of fuel economy and features availability.
Nothing in life is free. While the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition marks the first time Toyota has added off-road-oriented equipment to its RAV4 hybrid lineup, it can't be fitted with heated seats, and its all-terrain tires take a big bite out of fuel economy. If gas mileage is one of your primary reasons for buying a hybrid, you might be better off with a more pedestrian trim.
The 2023 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition borrows several key pieces of equipment from the gas-powered RAV4 TRD Off-Road.
The TRD Off-Road lends its 18-inch bronze alloy wheels, as well as a set of Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail 01A all-terrain tires.
The Woodland Edition also borrows a few suspension components from the TRD Off-Road, including its specific springs and dampers, as well as revised bump stops.
Those suspension upgrades make the ride just a little softer, helping absorb bad pavement better without making the whole car feel unsettled.
It's more than a little confusing that this outdoor-themed trim can't be optioned with heated seats or a sunroof.
Sadly, the all-terrain tires have an unfortunate effect on fuel economy.
In our 75-mph highway fuel-economy test, the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition achieved just 32 mpg—5 mpg below a standard RAV4 hybrid.
Lateral grip suffers, as well, with the Woodland Edition's 0.78-g skidpad result falling ever so slightly short of a standard RAV4 hybrid's 0.81 g.
You do get a little bit of extra standard equipment, including blind-spot monitoring and LED headlights.
The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition costs $34,860, which is approximately midpack in the RAV4 hybrid's lineup.
