After the C8 Corvette's engine moved to the middle, the E-Ray arrives as a 655-hp all-wheel-drive hybrid—changing the game yet again.
The 2024 Chevy Corvette E-Ray introduces some radical changes to America's preeminent sports car. Not only is the E-Ray the first hybrid variant, but it's also the first Vette with all-wheel drive. Although these radical additions stray even further from the fundamental formula, which was already altered when the C8 generation adopted a mid-engine configuration, the Corvette E-Ray looks to revolutionize the nameplate with its game-changing four-season capability and incredible performance claims. The hybrid Vette features the small-block V-8 from the regular Stingray and the wider bodywork from the more hardcore Z06, however, the E-Ray aims to be the ultimate grand-touring model.
The Corvette E-Ray combines a new 160-hp front-mounted electric motor with the 495-hp mid-mounted 6.2-liter V-8 from the regular Stingray. Together this system generates 655 horses.
Feeding the E-Ray's electric motor is a small 1.1-kWh battery pack stored in the tunnel between the passengers. Chevy says it provides a short electric-only driving range of between 3 and 5 miles.
The E-Ray moves on electric power alone in the new Stealth mode, which works up to 45 mph. Chevy says it's a useful way for drivers to exit their neighborhoods without the V-8's typical disturbance.
With its four-season capability, the Corvette E-Ray comes standard with all-season tires (summer rubber is optional). The rears measure an immense 345 mm wide, making them the widest all-seasons ever fitted to a production car—one of our favorite facts about the hybrid Vette.

The Corvette E-Ray does have exclusive display layouts on its gauge cluster and the center touchscreen that relay the battery's state of charge, performance metrics, the status of the electrical system, and more.
The E-Ray's interior is virtually unchanged, but there are now buttons on the side of the center console near the driver's thigh area, one for the stop-start system and one for the new Charge+ function that maximizes the battery's state of charge.
Since the C8 Corvette was designed with the E-Ray's hybrid powertrain in mind, the added components barely affect its packaging. For example, the front trunk only loses a fraction of its cargo space.
Chevy says the E-Ray is the quickest Corvette ever, accelerating to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds and completing the quarter-mile in 10.5 ticks at 130 mph. So far, the Z06 coupe is the quickest Vette we've tested, clocking a 2.6-second sprint to 60 mph and finishing the quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds at 131 mph.
The 2024 Corvette E-Ray coupe starts at $104,295. That's nearly $40k more than the base Stingray coupe and $5k less than the Z06 coupe. The E-Ray convertible starts at $111,295, which is $7k more than the coupe.
