When the Genesis brand emerged from its Hyundai-shaped cocoon just a few years ago, its product lineup was small and featured only sedans. Now the brand's lineup has expanded to include SUVs, including the excellent GV70, which expertly blends luxury and performance better than rivals from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The compact GV70 sports a design that pays homage to the larger and more expensive vehicles in Genesis's lineup, but it features several design flourishes that set it apart.
An athletic stance gives the GV70 an assertive look, and while handling isn't as sharp as the Porsche Macan's, the Genesis can hold its own on a twisty road.
Like the exterior, the cabin's design is unmistakably Genesis but there are hints of personality throughout, including the oval-shaped lower control panel and the available two-tone black-and-red theme shown here.
The front seats are comfortable and supportive enough to hold you in place during brisk handling maneuvers.
In addition to a large infotainment display, the GV70 features a digital gauge cluster, but it uses some analog elements to keep an upscale look.

The rear seats aren't as spacious as those in the larger GV80 SUV, but it's on par with rivals such as the Audi Q5 and the Acura RDX.

Two different powertrains are offered, starting with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 300 horsepower. The upgrade engine is a 375-hp twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6.
The GV70's got broad appeal, a value-oriented price, powerful engines, and a well-balanced chassis. Why would we not choose it for our 10Best list?
