Mercedes-AMG has revealed the S63 E Performance for the 2023 model year, transforming the high-powered luxury sports sedan into a sporty plug-in hybrid flagship.
While the S63 still uses a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8, it now adds an electric motor and battery mounted on the rear axle.
The hybrid system combines for 791 horsepower and 1055 pound-feet of torque, with the e-motor making its peak 188 hp for up to 10 seconds.
Those generous power figures mean the S63 E Performance can hit 60 mph in a claimed 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph.
The S63 is distinguished from lesser S-class models by a fresh grille, revised front bumper, trapezoidal exhaust pipes, and a rear diffuser.
The S63 still features an opulent cabin, with unique seats, upholstery, stitching, and an AMG steering wheel.
The infotainment system gets new displays to show the performance and hybrid metrics.
The S63 E Performance has seven drive modes, including an all-electric setting that sends electric power to all four wheels.
The full-EV mode works up until 87 mph, when the gas motor kicks in, and the S63 has an electric driving range of around 20 miles.
The S63 rides on air suspension and adaptive dampers, giving it the ability to adapt depending on road conditions or driving styles.
