A dozen years after the debut of the Leaf EV, the Nissan Ariya arrives as the brand's second electric car.
Larger and more expensive than the Leaf, the Nissan Ariya starts at $44,485.
The Ariya is available with a single motor and front-wheel drive or with dual motors and all-wheel drive.
Our test car was the single-motor version, here making 238 hp (it's 214 hp in the base model). This powertrain accelerates the Ariya to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds.
While a 63.0-kWh battery pack is standard, our Ariya was equipped with the 87.0-kWh battery. Our 75-mph highway test revealed 240 miles of range, against an EPA estimate of 289 miles.
The Ariya's interior is more stylish than its exterior.
Typical of EVs in this class is the Ariya's dual-screen display and the open space ahead of the center console.
Touch-sensitive climate controls are integrated into the dashboard trim.
Our test car was the Empower trim level, which is the fourth-highest and starts at $54,985. The others are: Engage, Venture, Evolve, Premiere, and Platinum.
