Porsche's 911 lineup has come in a whole lot of variants, but here's something unexpected: an off-roader. The 911 Dakar is named for the legendary Paris–Dakar Rally.
The 2023 Porsche 911 Dakar is a limited-edition performance off-road coupe.
Only 2500 will be made, and the starting price is a lofty $223,450.
The 911 Dakar borrows heavily from the rest of the 911 lineup, starting with the Carrera 4 GTS's 473-hp flat-six engine.
The Turbo S donated its cooling system, and the 4S's brakes were installed on the 911 Dakar.
This blue and white livery is available as an option and pays homage to the car that won the Paris–Dakar rally in 1984.
The stripes are cool, but we think the 911 Dakar looks the best when it's wearing the optional roof rack, which features built-in flood lights.
This model also wears specially designed wheels to emulate the look of the Fuchs rollers that came on the 1984 rally winner.
Porsche also worked with Pirelli to develop a special all-terrain tire that's less prone to puncture while also being capable of running at high speeds.
The tires use a special dual-carcass design and feature blocky treads for driving on gravel, sand, and snow.
Two new drive modes—Off-Road and Rallye—allow the driver to dial the car in to handle whatever terrain they encounter.
The cabin is typical 911, although the Dakar model comes with aggressively bolstered sports seats as standard. A more comfortable pair of bucket sets is optional, but none of the Dakar models come with rear seats.
