The 500 mini-car mounts its second return to American shores, this time offered solely with an electric powertrain.
Italian automaker Fiat has announced at the 2022 L.A. Auto Show that its 500 mini-car will return to the North American market, this time offered only with an electric powertrain.
The 500e, already sold in Europe, has been significantly revised from the one that was sold here last as a 2019 model.
It retains the retro-modern styling of the last generation car but incorporates more modern tech and many improvements.
Fiat hasn't said what powertrain or battery pack will power the 500e when it goes on sale in America in 2024, but we suspect it will get the same setup that's currently sold in other parts of the world.
That would mean a battery as large as 32.3-kWh and an electric motor pumping out up to 117 horsepower.
To celebrate the announcement, Fiat rolled out three one-off concepts at the 2022 L.A. Auto Show with design inspiration from three Italian design firms.
The first is one that's designed by Armani and features laser-etched paint and a dapper interior treatement.
The second is inspired by the furniture of design firm Kartell and uses recycled plastics to dress up the 500e's design.
And the third features inspiration from jewelry designer Bvlgari and even includes a removable gemstone brooch that's mounted on the steering wheel.
