The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover First Edition is a smooth operator, inside and out.
Redesigning the Range Rover isn't easy because everyone has a particular idea of what it should be. The 2022 model manages to tread the fine line between trend and tradition with clean, smooth lines—making the complicated look simple. It also gets an optional BMW-sourced V-8 (not for the first time) and available three-row seating in the long-wheelbase model. Our thoroughly loaded First Edition test vehicle carried a $169,900 price.
We tested the short-wheelbase, two-row Range Rover, but the long-wheelbase version now offers third-row seating.
The restyled Range Rover is impeccably tailored—all smooth surfaces, yet unmistakably linked to its predecessors.
The Range Rover hit 60 mph in 4.3 seconds, tying the Cadillac Escalade V.
The touchscreen is responsive but some menus are bewilderingly complicated. The seat massage settings alone offer 125 combinations.
That lavish center console folds up to transform the rear seats into a bench.
The passenger's side rear seat gets a power leg-rest that might require moving the front seat forward.
The Range Rover is once again powered by BMW (at least, in V-8 form), with a 4.4-liter engine that makes 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.
For $169,900 (as tested), yes, you get rear-seat entertainment.
We didn't get to test the Range Rover's off-road chops, but they're still intact. Just keep the mud off that leather.
