The 2023 Toyota Crown replaces the Avalon in bombastic fashion.
While this is our first Toyota Crown in the U.S., the nameplate dates to 1955 in Japan. Replacing the Avalon, the Crown is an all-wheel-drive hybrid with either 236 horsepower or 340 horsepower, depending on the trim. And while it looks like a quasi-crossover—the roofline is 3.7 inches higher than that of a Camry—the Crown's ground clearance is a very carlike 5.8 inches. In Hybrid Max form, it will run from zero to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
The 2023 Toyota Crown isn't afraid to offer up a bit of controversy as a high-riding sedan.
The Crown interior recalls the departed Land Cruiser—it could belong to a Lexus.
The Crown rides on either 19-inch wheels or 21-inchers.
With its nickel-metal hydride battery, EV Mode doesn't take the Crown very far.

Two-tone paint is a $550 option on the Platinum trim. This side-profile color is called Bronze Age.
The Crown is built exclusively in Japan, for now.
A 12.3-inch touchscreen is standard on all trims.
Crown pricing starts at $41,045 for an XLE and ranges up to $53,445 for a Platinum.
The Platinum gets a six-speed automatic transmission with a wet clutch in lieu of the XLE and Limited's CVT.
